You did a great job on the 99 Audi. No complaints there. The only thing I can say critically is that for those of us who drive older vehicles, your labor rates and parts prices are just too much to handle. If a brake job and a couple of parts for the turbo approach half the resale value of the car, it seems like I would be better off going elsewhere. You mentioned that it needs new ball joints at 2000 dollars. I am sure I can do better than that if I travel to Drew's in Dexter, Worth the extra miles. DCCS did a great job quite reasonably when they were in Lewiston and I took it there. If I had a newer Audi I would come back to Autowerkes, and I would recommend you to others, but I can't afford you guys for my '99 .
Response from Autowerks Maine, Inc - We appreciate the legitimate review. It is always are goal to be thorough and complete in our work here. A problem in dealing with older cars is that with age and our climate they can be more of a problem to repair correctly than newer models. Unfortunately their parts also still cost plenty. Overall owning an older car can seem expensive especially if you try to factor the costs against a book value. The good thing is that an older car is not loosing value at the rate a newer car will. That loss will generally be even more than the repair costs on your older car. It all comes down to how much per mile a car is costing when you add everything up. It usually always proves out that an older car will cost less. Even todays older cars take specialized equipment to properly repair. We have made the investment in the proper equipment we need. A shop that has not may be able to do some things cheaper but will cost more in the long run due to inefficiencies and mistakes. Thank you.
